“You feel like you’re part of team. I have never felt that in any of the other courses I have taken.”
Mary Sloan’s interest in the technician field was sparked during high school. The question of “what am I going to do when I grow up” haunted her just as it does every kid preparing for college. “Society said to go into computers,” says Mary.
So she visited the computer science department at a trade school. However, it was very boring to her. There was no room for creativity. That same day she stopped by the dental building where she saw an advertisement for dental technicians. She had no idea what that was a decided to check it out. She found an older, retired gentleman working on a pair of dentures. As she talked with the man she could feel herself getting more and more excited. There was a little bit of science, a little bit of art, every case was different, and she would be able to help people. This was everything she had been wanting and decided this was the path she wanted to go down. Since then Mary has worked for large labs, small labs, and now owns her own lab in Lewisville, Texas, just miles away from the Texas Center.
When Mary started her business, she already knew of Dr. Stewart. “I knew he was a dentist that was helping people and wanted to make a difference in someone’s life,” says Mary, “and I knew that was the direction I wanted to go.” She went to Dr. Stewart’s office and told him that she would love to help him out by seeing his patients that had minor needs. At the time, Dr. Stewart was an instructor for OBI and became Mary’s mentor/teacher for OBI levels 1-3. When she was getting ready to start level 4 Dr. Craig Herre and Dr. Hal Stewart were starting The Stewart Center (formerly known as the Texas Center). So she decided to finish her level 4 there.
Mary has been through many other courses but did not receive the type of training and care she got at The Stewart Center. “What sets The Stewart Center apart is that they are 100% behind you,” says Mary. “The other groups that I was in didn’t care if I got the information or not. If I didn’t understand it, then too bad. But at The Stewart Center you can always call and get support, even after going through the class.”
“The biggest take away was working on a patient that you know you’re going to change their life. You can’t put a price on that.”
Since graduating from The Stewart Center and realizing the immense need for BioRejuvenation Dentistry, Mary has become very particular with the dentists she chooses to work with. She even let a few of the dentists go that she had worked with prior because of her desire to work on BioRejuvenation cases. “I want to be available for those cases,” says Mary. “I don’t want to be overwhelmed by the little stuff.”
During her residency at The Stewart Center, Mary was assigned to work with Dr. Mary Isaacs, a dentist from Florida who was also going through the residency. And since graduating, they still work closely together on BioRejuvenation cases.
We are very proud of Mary and all she has accomplished. She is going to continue to do great things and change people’s lives!
“The Stewart Center is passionate about what they’re doing and they want you to be successful. They want you to be as successful as they are.”
